April 14th, 2025 (New York) – The WNBA Draft 2025 was everything and more from the energy, the vibes, the players, the fans, the city—it was a moment in basketball that I won’t forget. The excitement was palpable, from the orange carpet to the press room. It was a full-circle vibe that captured the essence of what W means to so many.
Outside the venue, I had a sweet interaction with a young fan of Paige Bueckers. When I asked her what she hoped for the number one draft pick, she simply said, “I want Paige to have fun tonight.” That moment stuck with me. And just like that, the dream became real—Paige Bueckers was selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings. The energy in the room was electric.
The media room was buzzing with reporters from all over, each bringing their own basketball knowledge, analytics, and passion. It was an atmosphere you had to be part of to truly understand. The orange carpet, presented in partnership with Coach, was a fashion-forward moment. Big names in sports, media, and fashion showed out, but so did the future stars of the league.
Speaking of fashion, NBA star Russell Westbrook designed and styled Georgia Amoore, who was drafted sixth overall to the Washington Mystics. That kind of support—across leagues, across styles—was just another sign that the WNBA is leveling up. Support was a theme of the night. When Paige gave her speech, she made sure to shout out her UConn teammates Kaitlyn Chen and Aubrey Griffin—both of whom were also drafted. Chen to the Newest WNBA franchise the Golden State Valkyries and Aubrey to Minnesota Lynx, We love a supportive girly!
During the press conference, I asked No. 4 pick Kiki Iriafen what two words she’d write on a mirror as she starts this new journey. Her answer, “Keep going” and “Trust the process.” And she absolutely glowed—go ahead, Kiki! I also got to speak with Madison Scott. Her word for her final college season was “joy.” When I asked what that word means now, she teared up, saying she feels blessed and will continue to play with joy and passion.
Even Coach Geno Auriemma made an appearance in the media room to support his players, proving once again that this moment was about more than basketball. It was about dreams fulfilled.
Old fans, new fans, new partners, and investors—it’s clear: the WNBA is here, and we’re here to stay. The 2025 season will tip off on Friday May 16th, 2025.
