Christian McCaffrey’s remarkable streak toward all-time scoring greatness hits a roadblock at the goal line, falling just short of unmatched history. The San Francisco 49ers running back’s touchdown streak ends at 17 games in a dominating 34-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving him tied with the legendary Hall of Famer Lenny Moore for the all-time NFL record.

McCaffrey’s 17-game touchdown streak, including three playoff games, ends but it not only stands as a San Francisco franchise record but will forever be linked with Moore’s run of greatness from 1963-64. The conclusion of McCaffrey’s streak didn’t come due to a lack of effort, as he continued to be a focal point even after the game was well in hand.

Despite the final score, McCaffrey made a valiant effort to extend his streak, highlighted by a 19-yard run off the right end on fourth-and-5 to the Jaguars’ 10-yard line. However, he was ultimately held out of the end zone, with a series of plays that included a 2-yard loss and falling short on a fourth-down target when lined up wide.

In a sarcastic quip, McCaffrey humorously acknowledged his “sucky” performance, joking about being the only one on the team not to score. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude for the team’s efforts to keep him in the game to pursue the record.

McCaffrey concluded the day with an impressive stat line of 95 yards on 16 carries and 47 yards on six receptions. While he fell short of claiming the record solely for himself, McCaffrey’s scoring prowess over the 17-game stretch is a remarkable feat worth celebrating. His streak began with a 3-yard touchdown reception from Brock Purdy in Week 13 of the previous season, and the last time he went scoreless was in Week 12 of last year against the New Orleans Saints.

Nearly six decades after Moore’s historic achievement, McCaffrey has left his mark on the NFL record books, even if he shares the spotlight with a Hall of Famer.
