Five Connecticut Players Finish in Double Figures as Sun Defeat the Fever!

Uncasville, CT (June 10, 2024) – The Connecticut Sun secured a commanding victory over the Indiana Fever with an 89-72 win at Mohegan Sun Arena. This marks Connecticut’s third victory over Indiana this season, maintaining their unbeaten streak against the Fever since 2021.

DiJonai Carrington was hooping and delivered a season-high 22 points, alongside six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. DeWanna Bonner contributed 17 points and was 3-4 from beyond the arc. Brionna Jones and Ty Harris each added 11 points, while Tiffany Mitchell scored 10 points off the bench in just 21 minutes. Alyssa Thomas also does what the engine does and added seven points, a season-high 18 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Her 18-rebound performance ties Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby’s record for the most rebounds in a game this season.

The Sun dominated early, holding a 13-10 lead during the first media timeout and finishing the quarter with a 13-5 run, resulting in a 26-15 lead. Their momentum continued in the second quarter, outscoring Indiana 29-20, and closing the half on a 16-4 run. Connecticut’s shooting percentage of 61.3% (19-31) in the first half marked their highest in a single-half this season. The Sun’s lead swelled to 28 points in the third quarter before ending the quarter with an 80-56 lead. Despite being outscored 16-9 in the final quarter, Connecticut secured the victory.

Aliyah Boston led the Fever with a double-double, recording 14 points and 12 rebounds, along with a team-high five assists. Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull each scored 10 points for Indiana.

Connecticut shot 46.2% (30-65) from the floor and held Indiana to 40.3% (25-62). The Sun outperformed the Fever in points in the paint (36-28) and fast break points (15-9), though Indiana led in second chance points (14-12) and bench points (38-21). Post-game, Carrington credited her defensive prowess for her offensive success, while Ty Harris dubbed this period as her “seatbelt season,” indicating her strong focus and determination to be a lock down defender.  The Sun are now on the road to head to Chicago to play the Sky on Wednesday June 12th at 8pm.
