One of the better portal signings in the offseason, Wake Forest transfer Kendrell Flowers, ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs defeated former MEAC foe Bethune-Cookman tonight 33-9 at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Bulldogs needed each, and every one of those 147 yards from Flowers as the Bulldogs struggled to throw the football most of the game. Quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. struggled throwing the football, completing just 6/16 pass attempts for 141 yards, 87 of those yards coming on a touchdown pass to Shaquan Davis.

The game started slow, primarily due to a weather delay that caused a late start to the game. The Bulldogs took a 10-0 lead into the locker room and made some critical adjustments in the second half, taking advantage of Bethune-Cookman’s aggressive defense. Fields began giving the ball to Flowers on RPOs or running it himself, throwing the Wildcats’ defense off balance.

The defense stymied the Wildcats all game. Bethune-Cookman did have 391 yards of offense, but they struggled to sustain drives, either turning the ball over or committing crippling penalties that stalled drives.
