The 2022 Grambling State off-season will live “rent free“ in the heads of every Southern Jaguar alum, athletic administrator, and supporter for the next few months. Grambling State is now CREATING a defense by flipping players committed to Southern University. Defensive Back Devin Bush, Linebacker Donte Starks, and now Defensive End Ja’sion Greathouse have are all now committed to Grambling State. The latest to make “the flip”, Ja’sion Greathouse was a JUCO star in his freshman season, ending the season with 20.5 sacks. Greathouse lined up at defensive end and linebacker for the Itasca Vikings and was very effective rushing the passer from both position. As a linebacker he showed an elite ability make his way through the crowd to run and chase down offensive playmakers. As a defensive lineman he displayed great burst and the ability to finish once he made his way to the quarterback.

The 6-foot-4 freshman announced his commitment to Southern University earlier this month on January 23rd. Greathouse seemed very excited about the opportunity to play for Southern University and even committed to encouraging others to follow him to Saturdays at “The Bluff”. Only two days ago, Greathouse retweeted the announcement of Oregon transfer MJ Cunningham, who also committed to Southern. Later that day and image of Greathouse and Cunningham was posted with the image caption reading “Bad Boys for Life“, using the art imagery of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s Bad Boys movie. Ironically, only days later, Greathouse has committed to Southern’s greatest rival, Grambling State. n
In his announcement, Greathouse seemed to understand how his change of heart would effect the Jaguars fanbase and offered an explanation for why he made the choice to commit to Grambling State, calling his decision “strictly business” . He also stated that as a father he had to make the best decision for himself and his daughter. Greathouse also mentioned the Southern University faithful in his tweet as well, saying, “All Love Jag Nation”.
Southern University and Grambling State have been battling since 1932. In that first battle Southern University walked away winning 20-0. Nearly a century later, Southern leads the series 37-34, after the latest win by Grambling State in the Fall 2021 Bayou Classic. If this off-season is any indication of how the future will look between the two schools, look for Grambling to tie, or overtake, this series over the course of the #HueDat Era.
