NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 18, 2022 – Senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. of Norfolk State has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Cola-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. Junior guard De’Torrion Ware of Morgan State and redshirt freshman guard Nendah Tarke of Coppin State were selected as Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Rookie of the Week honors went to freshman guard Elijah Hawkins of Howard.

Bryant, Jr. (G, 6-1, 220, Sr., Norfolk, Va.) scored over 20 points in all three of the Spartans’ conference wins last week, averaging 26 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. For the week, he shot 54% from the field (22-for-41), 42% from 3-point range (8-for-19) and 93% from the free throw line (26-for-28). He recorded a season-high 29 points on 9-for-12 shooting in the win over Delaware State and posted 24 points in the win at Howard. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, he tallied 25 points and seven rebounds.

nWare (G, 6-4, 200, Jr., Hopkinsville, Ky.) had a game-high 11 rebounds (all on the defensive end) and added four steals against Coppin State. Ware also had a game-best 23 points and added two assists in 33 minutes of play.

Tarke (G, 6-4, 200, r-Fr., Gaithersburg, Md.) grabbed 10 rebounds (eight defensive) and had four steals in the win over Morgan State. Offensively, Tarke added a career-high 22 points, including a buzzer-beating shot from beyond half court to win the game for the Eagles.

Hawkins (G, 5-11, 160, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 11 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in two games last week. He tallied 12 points and five assists against Notre Dame and had 10 points against Norfolk State.

nKyle Foster (Howard) averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game in two contests, including 22 points and nine boards against the Spartans. Foster added 12 points and five rebounds in a close loss to Notre Dame.

Steve Settle III (Howard) registered a career-high 25 points and added seven rebounds (season-high) and three steals against Notre Dame. He also finished the Norfolk State contest with 12 points and four rebounds.
