INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell each scored 34 points as the Indiana Fever overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit and pulled away for a 111-91 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.
Clark finished with 34 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. She shot 12-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range, and finished with a game-high plus-32.
Mitchell matched her with 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting, including four 3-pointers, while adding four assists and three rebounds.
Together, Clark and Mitchell supplied 68 of Indiana’s 111 points and drove a comeback after Connecticut controlled the opening quarter.
The Sun built a 28-14 advantage in the first quarter, but Indiana flipped the game before halftime. The Fever closed the first half on an 18-2 run, with Clark and Mitchell combining for the first 12 points of that surge.
By halftime, Indiana had turned its early deficit into a 58-43 lead.
Connecticut made another push after the break and cut Indiana’s advantage to 62-52 in the third quarter. The Fever responded with a 14-5 run to stretch the margin to 76-57, regaining control before finishing with a 20-point victory.
Indiana’s offensive efficiency was the biggest statistical difference.
The Fever shot 39-of-67 from the field, or 58.2 percent, compared with Connecticut’s 35-of-76, or 46.1 percent. Indiana also went 12-of-29 from 3-point range, while the Sun finished 9-of-28.
The Fever complemented their shooting with a 34-26 rebounding advantage and committed only 12 turnovers compared with Connecticut’s 16. Indiana recorded 23 assists, 13 steals and six blocks.
Aliyah Boston added 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and contributed two assists, two steals and three blocks. Makayla Timpson finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds while adding two steals and two blocks.
Lexie Hull contributed seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
Connecticut was led by Diamond Miller, who scored 19 points in 20 minutes and made three 3-pointers. Nell Angloma finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Aaliyah Edwards and Hailey Van Lith each added 12 points for the Sun.
Connecticut was efficient at the free-throw line, making 12 of 13 attempts, but Indiana generated considerably more opportunities. The Fever went 21-of-32 at the line while also holding advantages in field goals, 3-pointers, rebounding and turnovers.
Clark and Mitchell also added to a historic season together. It was the fourth time this season both guards scored at least 30 points in the same game, extending their WNBA single-season record for a duo.
Clark recorded her fifth game of the season with at least 30 points and 10 assists, while Mitchell extended her streak of 20-point performances to 24 consecutive games.
The victory improved Indiana to 26-14 and marked its seventh win in nine games.
What began with Connecticut holding a 14-point advantage ultimately became another showcase for Indiana’s high-powered backcourt. Clark controlled the game as both a scorer and distributor, Mitchell matched her scoring output, and the Fever turned an early hole into a decisive 111-91 win.
The win brings Indiana Fever to a record of 26-14 on the season, while the loss brings Connecticut Sun to a record of 10-29.
