Goedert Strikes Twice as Eagles Deny Daniels’ Late Rally, 24-22

Philadelphia survived a late Washington charge behind Jalen Hurts, Dallas Goedert and a defense that made Jayden Daniels work for everything in a 24-22 win. Hurts threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, finding Goedert twice for scores, including a 43-yard strike after Washington had pulled within one. Goedert finished with 77 yards, while Saquon Barkley added 83 rushing yards. Washington’s defense kept the pressure on, with rookie Sonny Styles recording a sack as part of a unit that brought Hurts down three times. Philadelphia rookie Makai Lemon had a quiet receiving debut, but the Eagles generated enough explosive plays to stay in front.

Daniels completed just 18 of 34 passes for 164 yards as Washington’s receivers and offensive line struggled to consistently help him find a rhythm. Terry McLaurin was held to two catches for 14 yards, while Stefon Diggs finished with four receptions for 55 yards. Diggs did score to make it 17-16 in the fourth, but an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty after the touchdown prevented Washington from attempting a two-point conversion for the tie. That mistake loomed large later. Daniels finally heated up and found rookie Antonio Williams for a touchdown with 1:01 remaining, pulling Washington within 24-22, but the Commanders now needed two. Philadelphia was ready for it, with Moro Ojomo blowing up Daniels’ shovel pass to John Bates before the goal line. Washington’s offense found life late, but the Eagles made them pay for a slow start and one costly celebration.
