Denver’s Offense Was a Disaster but Seattle’s Collapse Was Even Worse

The Denver Broncos (4-2) survived a late Seattle comeback to defeat the Seahawks (3-3) 17-14 in overtime at Empower Field at Mile High on October 15, 2026, as Ja’Quan McMillian’s interception set up Wil Lutz’s game-winning 53-yard field goal.

Denver’s offense nearly wasted another outstanding defensive performance, but the Broncos somehow escaped with a victory over the defending Super Bowl champions. After Seattle opened with a field goal, J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey delivered second-quarter rushing touchdowns to give Denver a 14-3 halftime lead. Then the offense practically disappeared. Bo Nix finished with just 107 passing yards, Dobbins managed 41 rushing yards, and Denver repeatedly went three-and-out while its defense fought to preserve the lead. George Holani’s fourth-quarter touchdown and a two-point conversion to Rashid Shaheed brought Seattle within three before Jason Myers forced overtime with a field goal in the final seconds. Fortunately for Denver, Ja’Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold in overtime, setting up Wil Lutz’s 53-yard winner. McMillian also recorded a sack, Kris Abrams-Draine added another interception, and Denver’s defense generated five sacks despite missing Pat Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga.

Seattle’s defense deserved better after holding Denver to 168 total yards, 13 first downs and just 3-of-14 on third down. Nick Emmanwori and Ernest Jones IV each recorded a sack, while linebacker Tyrice Knight helped fill in for the injured Drake Thomas. Unfortunately, Darnold’s mistakes overshadowed an otherwise productive offensive showing. He threw for 278 yards but completed just 27 of 51 passes, surrendered five sacks and tossed two costly interceptions. Jaxon Smith-Njigba dominated with 12 receptions for 134 yards, while Shaheed contributed 66 receiving yards and Cooper Kupp added 50. The Seahawks outgained Denver 353-168 and controlled possession, yet three turnovers ultimately erased those advantages. Denver’s offense remains a serious concern despite consecutive victories, but Seattle’s inability to capitalize on a dominant defensive performance made this loss especially difficult to explain.
