Minshew Comes Off the Bench to Stun Cowboys in Overtime

The Arizona Cardinals (3-5) erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun the Dallas Cowboys (3-5) 33-30 in overtime at AT&T Stadium on November 1, 2026, as backup Gardner Minshew threw three touchdowns and Chad Ryland kicked the game-winning 42-yard field goal.

Arizona’s quarterback change completely flipped a game Dallas appeared to have won. Jacoby Brissett, who received a $10 million raise following an offseason contract dispute, was benched with the Cardinals trailing 17-3. Gardner Minshew immediately sparked the offense, beginning with Tyler Allgeier’s 63-yard touchdown run. Even after Dallas extended its lead to 24-10, Minshew kept coming. He threw touchdown passes to Allgeier, Trey McBride and Michael Wilson, including the tying 13-yard score with six seconds remaining. Chad Ryland missed the potential winning extra point before redeeming himself with a 42-yard field goal in overtime. Minshew finished with 188 passing yards and three touchdowns, Allgeier rushed for 147 yards and added 44 receiving yards, and Wilson caught eight passes for 111 yards. McBride contributed seven catches for 72 yards and a touchdown, even finding time to laugh in rookie Caleb Downs’ face about his first-round draft status. After this comeback, Arizona has every reason to keep Minshew under center. Meanwhile, third-overall pick Jeremiyah Love remains a concern, managing just 23 yards on nine carries as injuries continue to disrupt his rookie season.

Dallas deserves plenty of blame, but Arizona’s defense deserves credit for making the comeback possible. Dak Prescott completed 19 of 29 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown, finding Ryan Flournoy for a nine-yard score before adding a five-yard rushing touchdown. CeeDee Lamb caught seven passes for 58 yards, George Pickens added 48 yards on two catches, and Flournoy finished with 38 yards and a touchdown. Javonte Williams, coming off a career-high 155-yard performance against Philadelphia, was held to 56 yards on 24 carries, while the Cowboys managed just 93 rushing yards and 261 total yards. Brandon Aubrey made three field goals, and Dallas’ defense recorded five sacks, including two from Quinnen Williams, while Shemar James added an interception. None of it was enough. Arizona outgained Dallas 467-261, with Josh Sweat, L.J. Collier, Andrew Billings and Zaven Collins each recording a sack. The Cardinals also forced an overtime punt to set up Ryland’s winner. Dallas led by 14 in the fourth quarter and six with 69 seconds remaining, yet still lost despite committing zero turnovers. That’s a collapse the Cowboys cannot explain away.
