Aaliyah Edwards, Brittney Griner Lead Sun Past Fire, 90-87

The Connecticut Sun held off the Portland Fire for a 90-87 victory behind strong frontcourt performances from Aaliyah Edwards and Brittney Griner.

Edwards led Connecticut with 21 points and eight rebounds, shooting 9-for-13 from the field. Griner added 20 points, six assists, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting performance.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa contributed 16 points and six rebounds, making all eight of her free-throw attempts. Leila Lacan added 14 points, three assists and three steals, while Charlisse Leger-Walker finished with seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Portland was led by Carla Leite, who recorded 18 points and six assists. Megan Gustafson added 15 points and five rebounds, while Emily Engstler delivered 14 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals. Bridget Carleton contributed 12 points, three assists and three steals.

The Fire received balanced production and remained within striking distance, but Connecticut’s efficient interior scoring proved decisive. Edwards, Griner and Nelson-Ododa combined for 57 points, helping the Sun secure the three-point win.
