Angel Reese, the WNBA Rookie of the Month for June, has already made a significant impact in her debut season. The 6’3” forward has established herself as one of the league’s top rebounders, leading the league with an average of 11.7 rebounds per game. In facts she averages a double-double, with an average of 13.9 points per game and the 11.7 rebounds per game.
Reese’s impressive performance includes a 19-rebound game, setting both a new career high and a franchise record, as well as marking the highest rebound count in the league this season. She also just recently had an impressive career high scoring night, notching 27 points, including two three point shots earlier this week in her matchup against the Storm.
In today’s game against the Seattle Storm, Reese broke the record for the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season, previously held by WNBA great Candace Parker. Reese surpassed Parker’s streak of 10 consecutive double-doubles and tied Parker’s overall record of 12 consecutive double-doubles set between the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Reese secured her record-breaking double-double in the third quarter by grabbing her 11th rebound and immediately scoring her 11th point of the game.
With her relentless performance, Reese continues to solidify her position as a dominant force in the WNBA. Angel Reese has to be the favorite for ROTY at this point! Though odds makers and Caitlin Clark fans are firmly in opposition to this notion. Clark made a statement for her claim to the ROTY crown by making history yesterday and recording the league’s first triple-double by a rookie. Given that the league was founded in 1996, that’s quite an accomplishment. This will be a heated debate as the season continues, but both rookies are having an impactful season.
