Coach Deion Sanders, famously known as “Coach Prime,” has done it again. Each year, Sanders shakes up the college football landscape with a blockbuster recruiting move, and this year is no different. After flipping Travis Hunter to Jackson State from Florida State in 2021, Cormani McClain to Colorado from Miami in 2023, and last year’s top tackle, Jordan Seaton, Sanders has now secured the nation’s best quarterback prospect, Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis. The young phenom was initially committed to Lincoln Riley and USC, but with the help of his son and star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Coach Prime convinced Lewis to bring his talents to Boulder.

Ju Ju Lewis has been a household name for football analysts for years. As a two-time MaxPreps National Player of the Year honoree and a Gatorade National Player of the Year finalist, Lewis boasts a résumé that speaks for itself. According to 24/7 Sports, Lewis threw for over 10,000 yards in his high school career, leading Carrollton High to deep playoff runs in Georgia’s toughest division. With a quick release, pinpoint accuracy, and advanced mechanics, Lewis is regarded as one of the most polished quarterback prospects in years. His accolades include setting a state-finals record with 531 passing yards as a freshman and tossing seven touchdown passes in a single game during his sophomore season.

Andrew Ivins, Director of Scouting at 24/7 Sports, likened Lewis to Bryce Young, noting his ability to “distribute the football with quick release and advanced mechanics.” Ivins praised Lewis as a “new-age point guard” who thrives in modern spread offenses with his savvy decision-making and ability to process reads quickly. While Lewis may not have elite physical traits or be a dynamic runner, his leadership, precision, and football IQ make him a potential Day 1 impact player for the Buffaloes.
