Drake Maye Erases Miami’s 10-Point Lead as Patriots Rally for Road Win

The New England Patriots (5-3) overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Miami Dolphins (1-6) 24-19 at Hard Rock Stadium on November 1, 2026, as Drake Maye accounted for three second-half touchdowns and New England’s defense recorded five sacks to complete the comeback.

New England looked headed for another disappointing afternoon in Miami before Drake Maye took over after halftime. Playing without A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins, the Patriots struggled early, losing an Efton Chism fumble and missing a field goal before falling behind 13-3. Maye had just 53 passing yards at halftime, but finally broke through with a 43-yard touchdown to Kyle Williams that was initially ruled incomplete before Mike Vrabel successfully challenged. Maye then fooled Miami’s defense with a fake pitch and scored from two yards out to give New England a 17-13 lead. Kevin Byard’s interception, which bounced off DaQuan Jones’ helmet, set up a 48-yard touchdown to DeMario Douglas that stretched the lead to 24-13. Maye finished 16-of-20 for 199 yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing score, recording his fifth straight game with at least three total touchdowns. Douglas caught three passes for 76 yards, while Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 82. The comeback was even more impressive after tight end Hunter Henry exited with a foot injury.

Miami had opportunities to secure consecutive wins for the first time this season but couldn’t finish. Malik Willis completed 21 of 32 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns, finding Malik Washington for a one-yard score before halftime and rookie Kevin Coleman Jr. for a 35-yard touchdown with 2:04 remaining. Coleman finished with 46 receiving yards, while Caleb Douglas and Greg Dulcich contributed 43 each. Ollie Gordon II rushed for 69 yards, but Miami managed just 74 rushing yards as a team. New England’s pass rush recorded five sacks, including 1.5 apiece from Cory Durden and Gabe Jacas. Miami’s defense deserves credit for its strong first half, with Chop Robinson recording two sacks and rookie Jacob Rodriguez forcing Chism’s fumble. However, Gordon’s costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty stalled a third-quarter possession, and Zane Gonzalez missed a 43-yard field goal in the fourth. After Coleman’s late touchdown, Miami failed its two-point conversion, and Stevenson recovered the onside kick to seal the victory. The Dolphins fell to 1-6, wasting a 10-point halftime lead against a short-handed Patriots offense.
