HARRISON, NJ | Coach Hue Jackson kicked off his second season as the head football coach of the Grambling State G-Men with an exciting matchup against the Hampton University Pirates during Labor Day weekend at the 1st Brick City Classic this past Saturday, at Red Bull Stadium in Harrison, NJ.nnDespite Grambling State falling short with a final score of 35-31, the Tigers showcased their skills and determination on the field. Offensively, Grambling State recorded 19 first downs, demonstrating their ability to sustain drives and move the chains. The team accumulated a total of 411 yards, with 311 yards coming through their passing game and another 100 yards gained on the ground. This balanced offensive attack kept the opposing defense on their toes throughout the game. nn
Making his debut for the G-Men, Myles Crawley, a transfer from Alabama State, showcased his talent on the field. Crawley displayed composure and control throughout the game, completing 25 out of 38 passes for an impressive 311 yards and contributing two touchdowns. Crawley’s poised performance demonstrated his ability to handle the pressure and make impactful plays for the G-Men. In addition, one area where the Tigers excelled was in the red zone. They capitalized on all four of their trips inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, converting them into points on the scoreboard. This efficiency in the red zone is a testament to the team’s preparation and execution in crucial situations.nnIn the passing game, Lyndon Rash emerged as a standout performer for the Tigers. He led the Grambling State receiving corps with eight catches for 90 yards and contributed a touchdown to the team’s offensive efforts. Rash’s reliable hands and ability to gain yards after the catch made him a valuable asset for the offense. Nae’Saan Dickerson successfully caught a two-point conversion after Rash’ touchdown. Touchdowns were also scored by Joshua Quiett, Floyd Chalk, and Chance Williams. nnHowever, penalties proved to be a challenge for Grambling State, as they committed nine penalties for a total of 85 yards. nnOn special teams, Rinker Tanner successfully kicked a 31-yard field goal, granting the Tigers a 9-7 lead. Additionally, Jimmy Iles punted the ball six times, averaging an impressive 41.8 yards per punt.n

On the defensive front, Javon Carter, Lewis Matthews, and Kevin Thomas emerged as leaders for the Tigers, recording an impressive eight tackles each. Additionally, defensive back Ja’van Singletary made significant impact in the fourth quarter with a few intense tackles that disrupted the Hampton offense and halted their progress. The Grambling State defense also forced two turnovers, with Cedric Anderson and Robert Wilson registering interceptions. n
Hampton University, showcased their offensive capabilities as well. The Pirates recorded 26 first downs and amassed a total of 434 yards, with 279 of those coming from their ground game. Grambling State’s defense faced a formidable challenge in containing Hampton’s 279 yards rushing attack.nnIndividual performances from Hampton University included Paul Woods leading in receptions with four catches and TK Paisant gaining the most yards with 47, including a touchdown. On the defensive side, Qwahsin Townsel stood out with 12 tackles, leading all tacklers in the game.nnAlthough Grambling State University did not emerge with a victory, their performance demonstrated their potential and set the stage for an exciting and competitive football season ahead. The team will build on their strengths and address areas for improvement as they prepare for future challenges. With their talent and determination, the Tigers are poised to make their mark in the upcoming games.nn
