Houston Forced Overtime Only to Get Finished by Its Former Running Back

The New York Giants (4-2-1) defeated the Houston Texans (2-5) 27-21 in overtime at Reliant Stadium on October 25, 2026, as Devin Singletary’s 30-yard walk-off touchdown capped a strong first start for J.J. McCarthy and spoiled Houston’s late comeback.

John Harbaugh made a quarterback change, and the Giants finally got the offensive performance they had been searching for. Making his first start for New York, J.J. McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards without a turnover, finding Malik Nabers for 111 yards and Malachi Fields for another 83. Tyrone Tracy Jr. opened New York’s scoring before the benched Jameis Winston surprisingly returned for a one-yard touchdown sneak. Cam Skattebo, who received zero touches against New Orleans a week earlier, erupted for 124 rushing yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown to give the Giants a 21-14 lead. Houston eventually forced overtime, but New York’s defense delivered a three-and-out. Skattebo broke loose for 42 yards before former Texans running back Devin Singletary finished his old team with a 30-yard walk-off touchdown. The Giants piled up 420 offensive yards and improved to 4-2-1.

Houston’s comeback deserved a better ending, especially on an emotional afternoon for Tank Dell. Playing for the first time in 673 days following a devastating knee injury, Dell returned with a 43-yard reception. C.J. Stroud threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including Marvin Harrison Jr.‘s first score with Houston and a three-yard touchdown to Xavier Hutchinson with 52 seconds remaining. Ka’imi Fairbairn also connected from 58 and 57 yards. However, the Texans managed just 237 total yards, converted three of 12 third downs and committed 10 penalties for 80 yards. Woody Marks rushed for 66 yards, while Dalton Schultz added 45 receiving yards, but Houston struggled to sustain drives. Even three sacks from its defense couldn’t compensate for allowing 188 rushing yards. After fighting to reach overtime, the Texans couldn’t manage a single first down when they got the ball back, falling to 2-5.
