Is The Atlanta Falcons’ NFL Power Ranking of 31st Disrespectful?

Earlier this month, ,NFL.com released an article written by NFL writer Dan Hanzus, where he gave his power rankings for all 32 NFL teams. He had the Atlanta Falcons ranked 31st behind the Seahawks, Jets, Giants, Lions, Commanders, Texans, and Jaguars. 31st out of 32? Seriously? That’s blasphemous. I understand that the Falcons are currently in a total rebuilding stage right now, but this roster is actually more talented than a lot of people may think.

On offense Atlanta has a mobile veteran QB with playoff experience under his belt, an elite pass catcher in Kyle Pitts who became the second tight end in NFL history to finish their rookie season with 1,000 receiving yards, a versatile RB in Cordarrelle Patterson, and the best WR out of the 2022 draft class in Drake London. They also have some underrated wide receivers in Bryan Edwards and Olamide Zaccheaus, former Chiefs RB Damien Williams who helped the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl 54, and lastly an improving offensive line centered around left tackle Jake Matthews and guard Chris Lindstrom.

On the defensive side of the ball the Falcons have an All-Pro defensive tackle in Grady Jarrett, a top ten cornerback in A.J. Terrell according to Pro Football Focus, an All-Pro veteran cornerback in Casey Hayward, and two solid inside linebackers in Deion Jones and Rashaan Evans.

Not saying this Falcons roster is one of the best in the league or is bound to win the Super Bowl, but it’s certainly better than those seven teams ranked before them…right? I mean seriously, there’s no way any of those teams should be ranked higher than Atlanta. For years the Falcons organization has been counted out and disrespected, but that ends this season. This 2022 Atlanta Falcons team is going to surprise everyone this year. Mark my words.
