The season is finally here, fans ready to cheer and Brown University Bears locked in and ready for the match up against up Fairfield University. The game started off slow for the Bears on the offensive end, after 3 minutes into the quarter Gianna Aiello gets a bucket. The battle of the two teams begins. Kyla Jones had a sweet drive to the basket, even with the hot defensive pressure from Fairfield University and their leading scorer Callie Cavanaugh with 10 points at the end of the first quarter. Fairfield leading 19-7, shooting 44% from the field. Kyla Jones was leading with 6 points for Brown University.

The second quarter begins, and you could see that the Bears were going to start playing Brown University Basketball. Amanda Latkany hit back-to-back threes, bringing the bears within 8 (13-20) and some much-needed offense. The crowd, bench and teammates were ecstatic. The energy was felt in Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears just did not have an answer for Callie Cavanaugh from Fairfield University as she knocked down a baseline jumper bringing the score to 22-13. The Bears picked up the defensive effort, Grace Arnolie had a sweet steal that led to an easy lay-up. Kyla jones on offense, team defense and the firecracker in Grace Arnolie held Fairfield to just nine points in the second quarter. At the half, Brown Bears pulled within 7 points, finished the half with a good defensive stop and with momentum. Fairfield Leading 28-21, Callie Cavanaugh leading with 17pts, and the team shooting 37.9% from the field. Kyla Jones leading the Bears with 8pts, and the team won the battle of the boards 24-18.

Adjustments, defense, a little aggression, and determination from the Bears to start the third quarter. With 650 left in the third, Page Greenburg knocks down a jumper, that led to a good defensive possession and Kyla Jones comes down and gets the and 1.

Energy is contagious and that led to a block on the other end by Mya Murray. The game is now tied 37-37. This was a battle, but Freshman Grace Arnolie comes up with a timely steal and knocks down the shot with the stare down.

The Bears had the lead going into the fourth 41-38, and the game kept you on your feet. Fairfield’s Callie Cavanaugh could not be stopped, and Grace and her spiciness added to the Bears fuel. The game went down to the wire, with just 3:25 left in the game Mackenzie Leahy hit a three and tied game 52-52 and the entire gymnasium went wild. Fairfield flipped the switch on the defensive end and pulled away with the win 62-52. The top scorer for Fairfield University was Callie Cavanaugh with 36 pts, Izabela Nicoletti-Leite with 8pts, and Janelle Brown with 7pts. Bears Top performers were Kyla Jones with 21pts 5 rebounds, Grace Arnolie 11pts 9 rebounds, Amanda Latkany with 6pts, and Mya Murray with 4 blocks. Brown Bears on the road for their next match up against Duquense Friday November 11th, 2022, at 6pm.
