Kanas City’s Super Bowl win was a watershed moment for the franchise and its quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. After waiting 50 years to play for and win a championship, the Chiefs have solidified themselves as the premier franchise in the NFL with its second Super Bowl victory in three seasons. Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Lavon Mahomes II, has removed any doubt that he is the best quarterback in the NFL, winning his second Super Bowl MVP trophy in as many tries.

Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense took over in the second half, outscoring the Philadelphia Eagles 24-11. Mahomes did not have spectacular numbers — 182 yards passing and three touchdowns –, but he was there when his team needed him most, in the fourth quarter. Kansas City did most of its damage in the final frame, scoring 17 of their 24 second-half points.

This was a game for the ages, and Mahomes’ counterpart, Jalen Hurts, was equally as brilliant. Hurts ended the game with 374 total yards (304 passing and 70 rushing) and four total touchdowns. Hurts and the Eagles’ offense went score for score with the Chiefs for four quarters. Neither quarterback turned the football over and did not put their perspective teams in bad positions.

The difference in this game was the Eagles inability to sack Mahomes. Nursing a high ankle sprain, Mahomes could still escape and make plays, including a big run in the third quarter for the go-ahead touchdown to cut the lead to three. Mahomes was not sacked in this game, which was a plus considering how Philadelphia possessed the football.

The Eagles’ strategy of winning the time of possession was a sound one for most of the game. However, adjustments made by head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy were the difference. The Chiefs still scored touchdowns despite possessing the football for over 11 minutes less than the Eagles.
