Tyler Shough looked brilliant for three quarters, throwing four touchdowns — all to tight ends — as Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant scored twice apiece and New Orleans built a 27-16 lead. Then the fourth quarter, previously Shough’s best friend, turned on him. He had produced 231 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime of the Week 1 comeback against Detroit, then helped New Orleans score 15 unanswered in the fourth to beat Baltimore. This time, Shough lost a fumble and threw an interception before Johnson’s late fumble gave the Saints three fourth-quarter giveaways while Las Vegas scored 19 unanswered. And yes, the irony writes itself: apparently “intent to throw the ball forward” expired after Week 1.

Kirk Cousins capitalized with 248 yards and three touchdowns, Brock Bowers erupted for 10 catches, 116 yards and a score, and Ashton Jeanty added 93 scrimmage yards while fellow back Mike Washington Jr. ripped off a 36-yard touchdown. Bowers and Michael Mayer joined Johnson and Fant in the end zone, giving the four tight ends six combined touchdown catches. Defensively, Nakobe Dean led Vegas with 12 tackles and forced Johnson’s game-ending fumble, while Jeremy Chinn and Malcolm Koonce each recorded sacks and rookie Hezekiah Masses intercepted Shough. Chris Olave still fought through that secondary for nine catches and 107 yards; Masses entered having allowed only two catches for 16 yards on seven targets with two interceptions.
