Shedeur Sanders Continues to Impress, while FAMU’s Isaiah Major’s performance earns Defensive Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders, Florida A&M’s Isaiah Major along with Southern’s Joshua Griffin and Besean McCray its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their phenomenal performances during games played this past week of competition.   Offensive- Sanders completed 30-of-46 pass attempts for 332 yards to go along with three passing touchdowns during Jackson State’s 26-12 win over Alabama State. He threw touchdowns of 35, 25, and 16 yards while completing passes to 10 different receivers.

Defensive- Major was a key contributor all over the field and in the backfield while leading the Rattlers defensive unit in a 20-14 win at South Carolina State. He led the Rattlers with 13 tackles (5 solo, 8 assist), 2.5 tackles for loss, and one sack.

Specialist- Griffin played a vital part for the Jaguars special teams unit connecting on a 40-yard field goal during SU’s 45-13 win at Prairie View A&M. He also went 6-for-6 in extra point attempts while averaging 56.0 yards on kickoffs with two touchbacks.

Newcomer- McCray led the Jaguars offensive attack for the second straight week with 360 yards of total offense during SU’s 45-13 win at Prairie View A&M. He went 16-of-22 for 275 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 85-yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.
