Uncasville, CT September 25, 2024 – In an aggressive battle from tip, the Connecticut Sun outlasted the Indiana Fever securing an 87-81 win in Game 2 of the WNBA Playoffs’ First Round. With this dub, the Sun completed a clean sweep of the best-of-three series, advancing to the WNBA Semifinals for the sixth straight season.

Alyssa Thomas, the Engine, delivered another dominant performance. She had her a double-double with 19 points, 13 assists, and five rebounds, along with a steal. Her 13 assists matched her total from Game 1, doing what AT does. This marked Thomas’ 22nd career postseason double-double, tying her with Sylvia Fowles for third-most in WNBA history. The Sun had four other players finish in double digits, showcasing their depth. Marina Mabrey contributed 17 points, six assists, two rebounds, and two blocks, delivering a postseason career-high in assists. Big Bucket DeWanna Bonner added 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. DiJonai Carrington, recently named the 2024 KIA WNBA Most Improved Player, chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Off the bench, Veronica Burton provided crucial minutes, matching her postseason career-high with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Despite shooting 41.7% from the field compared to Indiana’s 43.4%, Connecticut’s superior second-chance efforts (11-6) and bench scoring (18-6) made the difference. The Fever dominated in the paint (48-40) and on the fast break (19-9) but couldn’t close out down the stretch. Indiana’s Caitlin Clark showcased her star power with a game-high 25 points, six rebounds, and nine assists. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston provided strong support, scoring 17 and 16 points respectively. Boston also made history, grabbing 19 rebounds—the first player to achieve that in a WNBA playoff game since Rebekkah Brunson in 2015.

As Connecticut moves on to the semifinals, they’ll look to carry this momentum against the Minnesota Lynx in the best of 5 series! Alyssa Thomas post-game said I said I live for the for the playoffs. Game 1 Sunday September 29th,2024 at 830pm.
