Sun Close Out 2024 Regular Season 87-54 Win Over Sky!

Uncasville, CT (September 19, 2024)– The Connecticut Sun capped off their 2024 regular season with a dominant 87-54 victory over the Chicago Sky. With the win, the Sun set a new franchise record for the most wins in a single regular season. Ty Harris hooped in the Sun’s final regular-season game, leading all scorers with 15 points while adding four assists and a block in 26 minutes of play. It was the first time Harris has led the team in scoring this season, showcasing her growing confidence and role within the team. Alyssa Thomas once again delivered an impressive performance, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and one steal, all in just 21 minutes of action. DiJonai Carrington posted her second career double-double, tallying 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, along with two assists and one steal. Marina Mabrey contributed across the board with 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block. Olivia Nelson-Ododa tied her season-high with 12 points and added four rebounds, one steal, and a season-high three blocks. DeWanna Bonner rounded out the Sun’s double-digit scorers with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.  Connecticut played Sun basketball and dominance was evident on both ends of the floor. The Sun shot an impressive 50% from the field while holding the Sky to just 33.9%.

With the playoffs approaching, After the game, Olivia Nelson-Ododa spoke about the team’s mindset heading into the postseason, saying, “We’re focused on taking care of the little things and going game by game.  Head coach Stephanie White reflected on the growth of the team throughout the season, highlighting a key moment when the Sun discovered the strength of their bench and depth. “One of the defining moments for us this season was when we realized the depth of our roster. We’ve stayed together through adversity, and always finding ways to win.  In round one the Sun will bring the heat and play the Indiana Fever Sunday September 22nd at 3pm.  Coach White said “you must lock down defensively, be able to give them different looks and stay consistent for 40 minutes”.
