As Week 11 approaches, the Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) and the Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) are set to clash in a highly anticipated Monday Night Football showdown (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC), reigniting the excitement from their Super Bowl LVII matchup last February.

This Monday night extravaganza will mark the ninth instance in NFL history where the previous season’s Super Bowl contenders face off. The Super Bowl champion from the prior year boasts a 6-2 record in these matchups. Additionally, it will be the fourth time since 2000 that teams with the best records in their respective conferences meet in Week 11 or later.

In their last Super Bowl encounter in Arizona, the Chiefs emerged victorious with a 38-35 win over the Eagles. Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes (27 years and 148 days) and Jalen Hurts (24 years and 189 days) made history, combining for the youngest starting quarterback duo ever in a Super Bowl, with a cumulative age of 51 years and 337 days.

Patrick Mahomes, a standout for the Chiefs, has been a force to be reckoned with this season; even when Mahomes is sick, he takes the field and leads his team as best as he can. This season, thus far, he has recorded 17 touchdowns and 2,442 total yards with a completion rate of 72.9%. Mahomes is on the cusp of tying Hall of Famer Dan Marino’s record of 65 such games in his first seven seasons. So, that goes on to note that Mahomes on his worst day is still better than most on their best day.

Jalen Hurts, the dynamic quarterback for the Eagles, has also been making waves in the league. Ranking second among all quarterbacks last season, he is gunning for that same achievement this season. Thus far, he has 15 total touchdowns this season and 2347 total yards, racking in a completion rate of 68.9%. Hurts has been a dual-threat force. Since entering the NFL in 2020, the question for this season is whether he will be able to lead the Eagles back to the biggest stage in football for a re-do from last year. Monday is just another stride to take to get there.

Monday night’s game presents a chance for Mahomes to etch his name further into the record books. He could tie Marino’s record with just two touchdown passes and solidify his place among the NFL greats. On the other side, Hurts has an opportunity to surpass Cam Newton’s record for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in his first four seasons with just one more rushing touchdown.

As the Eagles and Chiefs gear up for this Monday Night Football spectacle, the echoes of their Super Bowl clash linger, promising another exhilarating chapter in their evolving rivalry. Will history repeat itself, or will the Eagles seek redemption? Football enthusiasts eagerly await the answers under the Monday night lights.
