Thursday Night Still Belongs to Cleveland as Szmyt Sinks Steelers, 27-24

The Cleveland Browns survived a late Pittsburgh comeback and edged the Steelers 27-24 on October 2, 2026, at Huntington Bank Field, with a 56-yard field goal and a game-sealing interception deciding the finish.

PIT 7 3 0 14 24
CLE 0 21 0 6 27

Pittsburgh finally erased an 11-point hole, only for Cleveland to snatch the game right back. Aaron Rodgers tied it at 24 with a late touchdown to Pat Freiermuth and a quarterback sneak on the two-point try, but Deshaun Watson moved the Browns into range and Andre Szmyt drilled a 56-yard field goal with 15 seconds left. Grant Delpit then intercepted Rodgers on Pittsburgh’s final snap to seal a 27-24 win. Watson finished 24-of-33 for 268 yards and a touchdown, Denzel Boston supplied the biggest spark with 89 yards — including a 60-yard catch — and Quinshon Judkins and Jaleel McLaughlin both scored on the ground.

Rodgers still threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, DK Metcalf went for 115 yards, and Jaylen Warren added 93 rushing yards, but Cleveland’s defense kept landing punches. The Browns sacked Rodgers five times and picked him twice, with Denzel Ward joining Delpit in the takeaway column. The loss also extended one of the strangest Thursday trends in football: Cleveland has now won eight straight Thursday night games, while Pittsburgh fell to 0-10 in road divisional games played on Thursday and 0-5 on Thursday nights in Cleveland. In what Rodgers has said will be his final Thursday night appearance, he also missed a chance to tie Tom Brady’s record for Thursday wins. Cleveland didn’t just survive the rivalry — it kept the Thursday curse alive.
