The Southern Jaguars are the biggest threat to end Jackson State’s undefeated season. The Jaguars are currently ranked first in the SWAC West and are riding a four game winning streak. Last week the Jaguars beat Virginia Lynchburg 51-7 while missing 10 players due to suspension. Over the course of their last four game the Jaguars have scored a combined 176 points, averaging 44 points per game. Southern ranks first in rushing with 1599 yards on the season The Jaguars also boast three special players on defense Tahj Brown, Jordan Lewis, and Corinne Harris. Brown and Lewis rank first and fourth respectively in the SWAC in sacks (solo), while Corione ranks second in interceptions on the season with three. On offense Rice transfer August Pitre has been a standout at times this season, winning SWAC offensive player of the week just a few weeks ago. Pitre will have his hands full this week, potentially drawing Jackson States best cornerback in Travis Hunter. Coach Sanders said, “When you talk about a guy like Travis he places fear in people’s heart on the offense or defensive side of the ball…He’s just a solid player.” Hunter’s return significantly improves the number one defense in the SWAC. Hunter had a chance to be involved on offense this week catching 4 passes on 5 targets. While Hunter hasn’t made a significant contribution on offense, Tigers lead the SWAC in passing. Shedurr Sander has been sensational this season, leading the SWAC with 2231 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns. The Tigers have beaten their opponents by a combine point total of 286 to 84. Coach Sanders said this off-season they wanted be dominant and they have been dominant this season. The number 1 teams in the SWAC are destined to put on a show, even before the bands hit the field. The game can be seen on ESPN 3 at 1 pm CST.
