The underdog Jets came to Detroit looking nothing like a team ready to roll over, but Jahmyr Gibbs made sure their comeback stopped one score short. Gibbs piled up 164 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, including an 11-yard catch from Jared Goff with 2:25 left that broke a 24-24 tie and lifted the Lions to a 31-24 win. Goff was sharp all afternoon, completing 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover, while Isaac TeSlaa provided the biggest splash with a 49-yard reception. Detroit led by 14 early in the fourth, but New York kept swinging until Garrett Wilson’s touchdown and ensuing two-point conversion erased the entire deficit.

Geno Smith gave the Jets a real chance, completing 31 of 37 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Wilson went for 107 yards and a score, while Kenyon Sadiq added 105 yards and another touchdown. Detroit’s defense bent plenty, but its pass rush kept changing possessions, sacking Smith five times. DJ Wonnum led the charge with two sacks, while Chuck Clark, Alim McNeill and Aidan Hutchinson all got involved. New York fought all the way back, but after tying it late, the Jets had no answer for Gibbs when Detroit needed one final punch.
