The Golden State Valkyries earned a 76-67 win over the New York Liberty on Sunday behind a balanced scoring effort and strong team defense.
Kaila Charles led Golden State with 13 points, while Kayla Thornton added 11 points and four rebounds. Cecilia Zandalasini and Janelle Salaun each scored 10 points, giving the Valkyries four players in double figures. Veronica Burton also played a key role with eight points, six rebounds and eight assists.
New York was led by Jonquel Jones, who finished with 21 points and seven rebounds. Breanna Stewart added 15 points and four rebounds, while Sabrina Ionescu scored nine points with three rebounds and two assists.
The Valkyries held New York to 67 points and limited the Liberty’s offensive rhythm throughout the game. Golden State’s balanced attack and steady defensive pressure helped close out the nine-point victory.
