Leila Lacan Scores 26 as Sun Defeat Mercury, 96-83

The Connecticut Sun earned a 96-83 victory over the Phoenix Mercury behind an efficient scoring performance from Leila Lacan and balanced production throughout the lineup.

Lacan led Connecticut with 26 points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block, shooting 10-for-13 from the field. Kennedy Burke added 13 points, while Brittney Griner and Aaliyah Edwards each scored 12 points.

Griner also contributed six rebounds and four assists, while Edwards grabbed seven rebounds. Diamond Miller added 11 points, and Charlisse Leger-Walker directed the offense with seven assists and four rebounds.

Phoenix was led by Kahleah Copper, who finished with 21 points. Alyssa Thomas added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Valeriane Ayayi scored 13 points. DeWanna Bonner recorded eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Mercury stayed competitive behind Copper and Thomas, but Connecticut’s efficient offense and balanced scoring allowed the Sun to build separation and close out the 13-point win.
