Nneka Ogwumike Leads Sparks Past Sky, 102-87

The Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Chicago Sky 102-87 behind a balanced offensive attack and a strong all-around performance from Nneka Ogwumike.

Ogwumike led Los Angeles with 25 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Dearica Hamby added 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Ariel Atkins and Rae Burrell also scored 17 points apiece.

Erica Wheeler helped direct the offense with 15 points, eight assists and three steals. Emma Cannon added nine points off the bench as the Sparks placed five players in double figures.

Chicago was led by Kamilla Cardoso, Sydney Taylor and Gabriela Jaquez, who each scored 15 points. Cardoso also grabbed eight rebounds, while Taylor knocked down two three-pointers. Azurá Stevens and Jacy Sheldon each contributed 10 points, and Natasha Cloud finished with nine points and seven assists.

The Sky received balanced production, but Los Angeles’ efficient scoring and playmaking proved too much. The Sparks pulled away for a 15-point victory behind Ogwumike’s double-double and strong contributions throughout the lineup.
