T-Mac Takes Over Prime Time as Panthers Shock Lions, 32-26

The Carolina Panthers lit up prime time with a 32-26 win over the Detroit Lions on October 4, 2026, at Bank of America Stadium, riding huge nights from Bryce Young, Tetairoa McMillan and Chuba Hubbard to move to 2-2.

Carolina’s first Sunday Night Football appearance in more than a decade turned into the Tetairoa McMillan show. McMillan entered the night with 12 catches for 193 yards through three games, then damn near matched all of it at once: 14 catches, 192 yards and two touchdowns, including nine grabs for 147 yards before halftime — a Panthers franchise record for receptions in a half. Bryce Young was dealing too, completing 29-of-41 for 329 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers, while Chuba Hubbard finally woke Carolina’s running game up with 122 yards and two scores on 20 carries. Hubbard also passed Christian McCaffrey for third among Panthers running backs in career rushing yards. Carolina did all of that without starting guard Damien Lewis and receivers Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, then lost rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling to a knee injury.

Detroit somehow produced 452 yards and still spent too much of the night settling. Jared Goff threw for 412 yards without an interception, Jameson Williams went 6-for-102, Isaac TeSlaa added 95, Sam LaPorta posted 8-for-84 with the late touchdown and Amon-Ra St. Brown had eight catches for 75. But the Lions went just 4-of-12 on third down, 1-of-3 on fourth down and ran the ball only 15 times; Jahmyr Gibbs managed 46 yards on those carries despite scoring once. Four Jake Bates field goals tell the story — Detroit moved it, then repeatedly failed to finish. That makes Carolina’s defensive performance even more impressive considering both starting corners, Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, had just gone on injured reserve. Princely Umanmielen supplied the late sack, Derrick Brown knocked down two passes, and rookie corner Will Lee III joined Lathan Ransom on the game-sealing fourth-down stop. Ryan Fitzgerald deserves a side-eye for missing two extra points, but Carolina survived it. The Panthers are 2-2 and for one prime-time night, they looked a whole lot more dangerous than their record.
