Seattle Turns Lumen Into a Turnover Trap as Chargers Sink to 0-4

The Seattle Seahawks forced four turnovers and built a 21-point lead before holding off the Los Angeles Chargers 30-23 on October 4, 2026, at Lumen Field, using a disruptive defensive performance to move to 3-1.

Justin Herbert’s afternoon basically started in a ditch. On the first offensive snap, he tried to squeeze a ball into triple coverage and Drake Thomas picked it off; Sam Darnold hilariously returned the favor with an interception to Tuli Tuipulotu on Seattle’s very next play. Herbert never really recovered. He was just 5-of-14 for 36 yards with two interceptions at halftime, including another gift directly to Ernest Jones IV, and finished 19-of-31 for 189 yards, one touchdown, two picks and a lost fumble. Seattle turned L.A.’s four turnovers into control of the game, building a 27-6 lead behind Emanuel Wilson, Rashid Shaheed and Tory Horton. Wilson, elevated into a bigger role after first-round rookie Jadarian Price went on injured reserve with a chest injury, finished with 81 rushing yards, 39 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including his first score as a Seahawk. Shaheed added a nasty 28-yard touchdown run and 148 all-purpose yards, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba led Seattle with five catches for 76 yards.

The Chargers did show some fight, but 0-4 is 0-4. Omarion Hampton ran for 45 yards and a touchdown, Tre’ Harris produced three catches for 60 yards, Quentin Johnston ripped off a 44-yarder and Kimani Vidal caught Herbert’s lone touchdown. But Ladd McConkey aggravated the foot injury that had him questionable entering the game and was ruled out after the first half, while Derwin James never suited up because of a hamstring injury. Seattle’s defense deserves the headline: Jones had 12 tackles, a sack and an interception, Nick Emmanwori added nine tackles and a sack, Uchenna Nwosu had three quarterback hits and ended L.A.’s final real chance by strip-sacking Herbert with a minute left for a Derick Hall recovery. Seattle entered the week among the NFL’s best defenses, and this looked like it. The ugly part? Everybody apparently forgot the rulebook — the teams combined for 30 accepted penalties and 280 yards. Darnold wasn’t spectacular either at 13-of-22 for 168 yards, two scores and a pick, but he didn’t need to be. Herbert and the Chargers kept handing Seattle opportunities, and the Seahawks were more than happy to take them.
