Walker Hijacks the Fourth as Chiefs Break Raiders’ Hearts, 30-27

Kenneth Walker III powered the Kansas City Chiefs past the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27 on October 4, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium, exploding for 177 rushing yards and two late touchdowns as Kansas City erased a fourth-quarter deficit to remain unbeaten at 4-0.

Las Vegas had Kansas City exactly where it wanted it until Kenneth Walker III reminded everybody why he was just named AFC Offensive Player of the Month. Walker entered Sunday leading the NFL with 360 rushing yards and 41 broken tackles through three games, then somehow got hotter: 22 carries, 177 yards, two touchdowns and a 76-yard explosion, pushing him to 537 rushing yards through four weeks. The Chiefs trailed 19-17 with under five minutes left when Patrick Mahomes found Tyquan Thornton for 55 yards. Thornton had already caught two touchdowns and finished with a career-best five catches for 111 yards, nearly matching the 108 yards he had through the first three weeks, before suffering a frightening ankle injury on that play and being carted off. Walker punched it in two plays later, then Dareke Young fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Walker went 22 yards for another touchdown 19 seconds later. Kansas City did all of that after Rashee Rice exited in the first quarter with a right hamstring injury. Mahomes was far from great — 15-of-30 for 225 yards — and Travis Kelce was basically erased with two catches for 15, but Xavier Worthy added four catches for 70 and rookie left tackle Kahlil Benson, September’s Offensive Rookie of the Month, made another start with Josh Simmons sidelined.

Don’t let 3-1 fool you, though: these Raiders look real. Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns, Brock Bowers posted six catches for 86 yards and the late score, Michael Mayer had eight for 82, and Ashton Jeanty quietly produced 126 scrimmage yards — 58 rushing and 68 receiving. Las Vegas finished with 437 yards, 28 first downs and 35:42 of possession and didn’t allow Cousins to be sacked once. The problem was finishing drives. Matt Gay had to kick four field goals and Cousins’ final mistake erased a lot of the good. After Bowers’ touchdown and the two-point conversion cut it to 30-27, Vegas got one last chance, only for Cousins to force a pass under George Karlaftis’ pressure that undrafted rookie Xavier Nwankpa intercepted with 10 seconds left for his first career pick. Fifth-round rookie Hezekiah Masses remained a bright spot with seven tackles and two pass breakups, but the Raiders defense finally cracked: a unit that had nine takeaways and had not allowed a fourth-quarter point through three games forced zero turnovers and surrendered 20 in the fourth Sunday. Maxx Crosby still generated five quarterback hits and half a sack, but allowing 189 rushing yards — 177 of them to Walker — was the killer. Vegas almost pulled off another comeback anyway, which says plenty about how different this team looks. Kansas City just had the best player on the field when the game finally broke open.
