The Connecticut Sun relied on a disciplined defensive effort and balanced scoring to defeat the Washington Mystics 68-57 on Friday night.
Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the Sun with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals, providing a dominant presence on both ends of the floor. Leila Lacan also scored 12 points while adding five assists and four steals, and Kennedy Burke contributed 11 points on three made three-pointers. Brittney Griner and Charlisse Leger-Walker each added 10 points as Connecticut placed five players in double figures.
The Sun’s defense controlled the game throughout, forcing difficult shots and limiting Washington’s offensive rhythm. Connecticut also received solid rebounding and interior play from Nelson-Ododa and Griner, allowing the home team to maintain its lead throughout the contest.
Washington was led by Georgia Amoore, who scored 14 points and knocked down four three-pointers while adding five assists. Rookie Kiki Iriafen recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Sonia Citron also finished with 11 points. Despite controlling the glass in stretches, the Mystics struggled to consistently convert scoring opportunities.
Connecticut’s balanced offensive attack and defensive pressure proved to be the difference as the Sun secured a 68-57 victory.
