The Toronto Tempo put together a historic offensive performance Thursday night, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 125-97 behind a sensational outing from Marina Mabrey.
Mabrey delivered one of the greatest scoring performances of the WNBA season, pouring in 53 points on 17-of-28 shooting. She connected on 9 of her 18 three-point attempts and converted 10 of 12 free throws, adding six rebounds and two assists as Toronto’s offense proved unstoppable from start to finish.
The Tempo received outstanding support from their supporting cast. Julie Allemand directed the offense with 13 points, 14 assists, six rebounds, three steals, and one block, while Maria Conde scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Laura Juskaite recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Isabelle Harrison added nine points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Toronto’s balanced attack and unselfish ball movement allowed the home team to build a commanding lead and cruise to victory.
The Sparks were led by Nneka Ogwumike, who finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Dearica Hamby matched her with 21 points and nine rebounds. Rae Burrell contributed 17 points, four assists, and three steals, and Emma Cannon chipped in 10 points off the bench. Despite several strong individual performances, Los Angeles struggled to contain Toronto’s high-powered offense throughout the night.
Toronto’s combination of elite shooting, efficient passing, and dominant rebounding proved too much for the Sparks. Mabrey’s remarkable 53-point performance headlined a complete team effort as the Tempo secured an emphatic 125-97 victory.
