No Daniels, No problem. Mariota gets it done versus Super Bowl LX Champs.

With Jayden Daniels sidelined by another dislocation of his left elbow, Washington turned the offense over to Marcus Mariota — and the veteran backup delivered exactly what an 0-2 team needed. Daniels is considered week-to-week after injuring the same elbow that gave him problems last season, leaving Mariota to make the start against Seattle. Mariota threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns without a turnover, finding Rachaad White, Treylon Burks and Terry McLaurin for scores as Washington built a 24-10 lead. Seattle erased all of it, tying the game at 24 in the fourth, but Drew Stevens put Washington back ahead with a field goal before Kain Medrano jumped Sam Darnold and took an interception 50 yards to the house.

Even then, this thing wasn’t over. Darnold threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, Jaxon Smith-Njigba went off for 128 yards and two scores, and Cooper Kupp’s late touchdown pulled Seattle within 33-31 with 2:51 remaining. But the Seahawks’ three turnovers were the difference in a game they otherwise controlled statistically, outgaining Washington 437-258. Sonny Styles also intercepted Darnold, and Washington never gave the ball away. The Commanders didn’t have their franchise quarterback, didn’t have the prettier stat line and nearly watched a two-touchdown lead disappear — but with Mariota steady and the defense making just enough game-changing plays, they finally found their first win.
